Ibuprofen After A Workout?

NO! NO! NO!

Yes it is tempting. Popping a pill may be easy, but it does nothing to cure the underlying cause of your pain so don’t do it! Anti-inflammatory drugs like advil, tylenol, etc will deter muscles from growing after strenuous exercise because they inhibit the normal healing process. Soreness is natural and it occurs because your muscles have done something worthwhile. Your muscles will adapt – just give yourself some time to adjust. Okay, so maybe that is a bit harsh. You still fell like you need relief, so what do you do if not take ibuprofen? Try some great natural alternatives that not only have pain reducing properties but other great benefits for your body as well. Below we listed some of the typical issues that occur after a difficult workout and then some natural ways to alleviate the pain.

Achy joints – Food Rx: Cherries, Turmeric

Sore Muscles – Food Rx: Ginger, Banana

Cramps – Food Rx: Water, Nuts

Here is a great recipe to try for your post workout blues:

In a blender combine:

20 Red Tart Cherries

1 Banana

1 Handful of Walnuts

Blend until smooth then add a handful of crushed ice and blend for 20 seconds.

A few other options you have is to use R.I.C.E.  RICE stands for Rest, Ice, Compress.  RICE is one of the best ways to treat a minor injury or aches and pains after a workout.  It will cost you nothing and does not rely on any harsh drugs or chemicals.  Give it a shot and you might be shocked at how effective it is.

If you have any questions feel free to let us know or if you think you have a serious injury please call your doctor or go to the ER right away.
